Historical Context
Arturo Prat, naval officer and lawyer, died boarding the Peruvian ironclad Huascar at the Battle of Iquique on 21 May 1879, in the War of the Pacific, and is Chile's national hero. The escudo, worth 1,000 old pesos, was used from 1960 until 1975, when the peso returned at 1,000 escudos to 1.
Condition
[Est. UNC] No folds, creases or handling, with bright white paper and sharp corners. A faint mirrored offset of the serial shows in the oval on the back, an ink set-off from stacking at the printer and common on this issue. No tears, holes or writing. Grade estimated from the scans; not professionally graded.
Legal Tender
No longer legal tender: the escudo was withdrawn on 29 September 1975, when the peso replaced it.
